We were up early and ready to go enjoy a beautiful sunny day in Vancouver.  On the way to our downtown explorations, we thought it would be good to grab some breakfast near the Commercial/Broadway Skytrain station.  Chris thought we should check out Banners, and while I was a bit skeptical in the past, I agreed to try it out.

We got a booth right away and were able to enjoy people-watching on Commercial Drive, and Men’s Alpine Skiing on the TV at the same time – perfect!

The menus look like they have been around long enough to legally buy alcohol, but the table-top  breakfast specials where what drew our attention right away.  The prices were fantastic!

I ordered the “Ham & Eggs” combo listed on the specials menu.  With scrambled eggs cooked just the way I like them (not snotty!), and two big pancakes that were cooked all the way through (I’ve had bad luck with underdone batter-y pancakes recently) I was happy.  The ham was a bit oily and had a weak flavour – I would have preferred 1 slice of thicker ham than 2 thin pieces like this.

Chris, true to form, ordered the “Corn Beef Hash” with eggs over easy and toast.  He was surprised to find the hash to be in mashed potato form, but felt that it was pretty good this way. The beef was nice and salty, and a well balanced amount was mixed into the mashed potatoes.  The eggs were perfectly cooked.

We were well looked after at Banners – all the waitresses helped refill our coffees throughout breakfast.  They were friendly and managed the restaurant well despite the fact that it seemed quite busy.   This was a good start to what was going to be a really great day!
